Cairn Energy PLC
Corporate Responsibility Report 2010
We provide essential energy for society through the exploration and production of oil and gas, while safeguarding the environment, and respecting and contributing to the communities in which we operate.
We are committed to a culture that supports internationally recognised human rights, and apply a ‘rights aware’ approach in identifying, assessing and addressing issues that fall within our scope of influence.
We aim to minimise our greenhouse gas emissions, maintain energy efficiency and address the environmental and social risks and opportunities associated with climate change.
Operating in this remote environment presents specific challenges, such as: protecting the health and safety of the workforce in a harsh operating environment; protecting the environment where traditional livelihoods depend on the local fauna; and improving opportunities for local participation in our activities.
Exploring for and developing hydrocarbon resources have the potential to pose significant social and environmental risks. Our risk management procedures for assessing and managing these risks to prevent major accidents are key to our approach.
We are committed to eliminating all work-related injuries and illnesses, and protecting our employees and contractors through a comprehensive and proactive approach to health and safety.
