Jann Brown is both the Finance Director of Cairn Energy PLC and sits as a non executive director on the Cairn India board as such she is well acquainted with the airports between the UK and the subcontinent!
She is one of a handful of female finance directors of listed companies having taken on the role at Cairn in November 2006 eight years after she joined the company. Jann is an all round finance professional with experience of operational and corporate accounting, taxation, planning and negotiating transactions, raising finance and dealing with external stakeholders - governments and their agencies, shareholders, analysts and the banking community.
The finance function is very much a team that aims at all times to work with senior management in leading cross cultural and cross functional teams to achieve results. This approach paid dividends in 2008 when the Company received the Accountancy Age 2008 Finance Team of the Year Award. This award reflected the efforts, not only of the Finance Team, but other staff and departments in the IPO, the simultaneous acquisition and integration of MedOil and Plectrum, the raising of funds and the installation of the Oracle ERP system.
Jann holds an MA from Edinburgh University and joined Cairn in 1998 after a career in the accountancy profession, mainly with KPMG. Prior to her appointment as Finance Director, she served on the Group Management Board for seven years. She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Jann was appointed to the Board on 17 November 2006. Jann is also a non executive director on the board of Hansen, a Belgian company with interests in the sub continent.
In her spare time Jann enjoys art, wine and studying flight schedules to destinations around the world.
