Applying the CRMS to New Activities in Tunisia

Capricorn holds operating interests in two offshore blocks in Tunisia. Exploration drilling activities are expected to commence on these blocks during 2010/11.

2008 saw the Company establish an office in Tunisia in preparation for the start of operations in that country.
An administration and finance team was set up in Tunis supported by a technical support team based in Edinburgh. Utilising the new CRMS these teams have drawn up effective CR plans specifically for the preparation to drill phase. Steps taken included:

  • The setting up of the Tunis office including the provision of an organisation and the safe working environment for it to function within;
  • Emergency response planning including a spill response plan and medical and evacuation provision;
  • Coordination of CR plans with our potential contractors;
  • The identification and assessment of CR risks including presentation of an EIA to the Tunisian authorities;
  • Journey management planning; and
  • Training and development of local staff including a week at our head office in Edinburgh for training and awareness of Group policies, procedures and systems.
